Physics Practical; 1 exam done - 10 to go!
(Red Hot Chili Peppers - Make You Feel Better)
I should have blogged this yesterday, but I was so pooped out after my exam. Much like I am tonight after work. Ah well.
Any-who/anyhow/anyway/etc… on Wednesday (yesterday - 16th May) at 2pm I had my Physics practical (module 1, AQA specification B), which consisted of two parts, A and B respectfully.
Part A was made up of two half-hour experiments, and part B was made up of just one single-hour experiment.
Due to the limitations of my college the Physics group had to be split into two, so that one group started with part A, and the other started with part B, to then switch after an hour. Now, there are four girls in my Physics class (including me) and for whatever reason I was put as the ONLY girl in my group, which started with part A. Yeah I was slightly nervous and thinking “what…? Me alone with stinky boys? AAAAHH!” But it was fine.
The actual investigations were weird, the first one was finding out the rate of flow of two granular solids (i.e., sugar and salt). Yeah, I spilt both my sample A (sugar) and sample B (salt) EVERYWHERE! I found it quite funny, as did the boys. Then I ended up with sugar everywhere in my exam answer booklet and sticking to my hands and pen… It could have been worse I suppose!
The second half-hour experiment involved placing a plastic 30cm ruler balancing on two retort stands at it’s two ends (at equal distances). Then loading 100g weight to the middle of the ruler with the aid of string tied around the middle (technical eh?). Basically we had to see how much the ruler sagged by when under a force of 200g, 400g and 600g. Pretty lame I have to say.
The second part of the exam (the whole hour experiment) involved electricity (AAAAH!). But it wasn’t so bad. We just had to put in different resistors into the circuit, and read off the resulting voltage. By the end of the exam we were to figure out the value of the three resistors placed within the circuit (not ones we were testing with). I got an answer of 100ohms, and was later told the three were indeed 100ohms each, but I’m worried I didn’t explain in properly! GAH!
I feel like I didn’t do too badly, but I’m worried I missed easy marks, or made stupid mistakes. The exam in general was extremely fair, but I just don’t want to be cocky or have my hopes up high thinking I did better than I actually did…
Well I won’t know until August. Poop. I want to know NOW! Am I a budding Physicist, or Einstein’s worst enemy?

Umm… that sounds very difficult. I’ve never ever been good in physics.
But whoa, why’s the wait so long? :O Here we get our exam results within a week or two, only matriculation exams’ results take longer, but not that long.
I am SO glad I only have to take 1 exam..I know I’d be dead after next week if I had to take all of them! Or even more than one for that matter
I hope you did well on it!
There’s the reasons why I’m glad I didn’t take physics.. Go Chemistry!
Ahh, it sounds like it went pretty well, actually.
It’s been so long since I did physics… I kind of miss it, actually!
It sounds like you’re not quite Einstein’s enemy… Don’t worry about it too much!
And good luck with your other exams!
Good luck with all the exams! That exam sure sounds difficult, but I know absolutely nothing about Physics.
LOL at you having sugar all over you exam answer booklet. I can’t imagine what your marker will think of that, hehe.
gl with all the exams.
have fun on your trip.
wow thats alot of exams. heh lol i hate exams XD lol but that sounds sooo terribly difficult. good luck on the rest of them
I hope you score well on your finals
ahh, exams are soo awful and i can not imagen physics one either it must of killed you i would of been like AHHHHH. well i hope you did good :]
Sounds like your finals are killing you. Im so happy i dont have to take them.
/Despair
Ack. Good luck with the exam! I took a similar Physics exam when I was taking up my first degree in college and it was nerve-wracking. @_@
LOL GL with the rest of your exams. Its summer here so we still get to enjoy the heat. But July is fast approaching and we will be hitting books in no time.
You’re in college taking Physics and I’m a Freshman in High School taking Physics xD
Hmm. Your exam stuff doesn’t seem that much harder than the stuff we do. Whelp experiment wise, but all that calculations stuff gets to my head, I get the math part, but I can’t get it into an equasion from the problems. I hate reading things when it comes to it that it’s not a book and something I would enjoy. lol. I love playing with the electricity stuff though, making all those little circuit boards … though that one time I kinda burnt my hand on one of the resistors, and that crap hurts. haha.
Anywayys hopefully you’ll get results in time :]

That sounds like a lot of fun. Too bad you won’t know what you did for three whole months. Three long, boring, dragged out months. Which will seem like FOREVER.
Good luck!
The first two jobs I ever had were in companies that were all men… it was a little freaky at first!
I’m glad that you think your exam went ok. Don’t stress too much about the little things
They’re the things you surprise yourself with later.
WOW! i love the layout and the doodleing is funny lol!
Ok, I won’t pretend to understand ANYTHING about Physics. But honestly from what you say.. it sounds like you did well. I know you can’t help yourself but try not to stress it too much. August isn’t too far off. ;P
i am student from nigeria my best subject was physics and when i get to my final year in college i dislike phyics and i liked chemistry and i can’t do without physics that site can help us all you can call me if u want to advice me or mail me :deroju_ajayi@yahoo.com
