Automatic Doodlin’

Honestly, I didn’t know what to post, but since my last post was over a week ago I just knew I needed to write something.

I could write about how my first maths exam went fine, but the second didn’t go so fine and I was ready to cry, crawl into bed and not wake up… No thanks. I don’t really want to talk about it. Yet.

I could write about all the extra time I’ve been doing work and how tiring it’s been. *yawn*. BORING.

I could, just could write about how frustrating it’s been getting the plugins for the movies & books (under library) pages to work. Na. Although the movies still won’t display properly in the sidebar - grr. Nope. You don’t want to hear it, it’s only relevant to me.

But then I could write about how much I’ve been struggling to fall asleep. How I just cannot turn off and when I do, I wake up in the early hours of the morning to feel extremely tired. Na. You don’t want to know that. I’ve just got to deal with it.

So instead I’ll talk (well write) about what this post is entitled. Automatic doodling. Ah, but you should know I don’t actually mean the two together. Just makes a nice sweet title.

So firstly, everything to do with blogging/maintaining a website seems automatic these days. Like you don’t even have to lift a finger, or even think about anything. A couple of clicks and your site is sparklin’ ‘n’ shinin’, smelling sweetly of lemon and freshly squeezed *not* from concentrate. It’s very important it’s not from concentrate. That’s very very bad.

Ok, so that didn’t make a whole lot of sense. Ok ok… it didn’t make any sense. But what I’m saying is, I’ve noticed that there is something already there to do what you want your site to do/look like. You don’t have do anything except sit and look chirpy (not even that really).

Maybe it’s not a bad thing, this site is certainly very automatic(ish) - and by that I’ve got plugins that do magic tricks that can turn a few words into reviews, know who to ‘plug’ for comments as soon as one has been left and just generally make my site look presentable (look at my plugins used page - hell-of-a-lot-of-those-goons - even that page is made by a plugin!).

It just seems to me that having a website isn’t about slaving over it for hours and hours, breaking your neck and back and killin’ those little gems called eyes, anymore. I remember when it was like that. Sure, I still stress over little nonsense website things, but not to the same extent that I did when I initially started blogging back in 2003. Things have changed. Dramatically.

But I guess it means less time spent on my site, and more time spent… looking at my site afterward thinking what to do now… Huh. Anyway rant over automatic-ness. Bah, I do feel like the next thing to come will be to have something automatically post for me. Oh me oh my oh.

The second part (well, word) titling this post is doodlin’. Basically I thought I’d share with you two doodles my sister and I did on…. *thinks*…er… *crapbags*…. ooooh….*looks out window*… Tuesday!!! That’s it Tuesday. Yeah, it was her day off, we were sittin’ in the kitchen and had a random thingy and a pen. And we were bored.

It’s always been that she’s the artistic one and I’m the logical one. So mix the two together and what you get is what’s in the photos.

Yes the woman has a penis tail (tail penis?), that’s my sisters idea. And no, the baby is not supposed to look like it’s arms have been partially eaten. I just can’t draw. Don’t ask me what the arms are supposed to look like, I’ve forgotten.

There were a couple more doodles including booby tassels, chest hairs and men who had pissed themselves. But I think two is enough. I don’t want you to think I’m weird or anything. *cough*
:P

  1. SWEET doodles. my sister and i used to do that too, except on old free magazines. we blacked in teeth, drew penises, boobs, horns, tassles, boogers, really anything…ahhh, chest hair!
    lol
    good times

  2. hahah i used to doodle on pics all the time its fun

  3. LOL Emz. Nice doodles! I used to do that especially on Hillary Duff! XD She is so retard.

  4. Nice doodles! :D Martha Mouse is cute! :D
About the “automaticness” of sites… That’s one of the reasons I code my other sites manually - like http://reverie.midheaven.org - I don’t use any scripts or plugins for it. Well, I do use CuteNews and a Guestbook but that’s about it. Everything else is coded manually :)

  5. How did you get the “Now Reading” plugin to work? I have tried to use that plugin too–but i got no help whatsoever on how to use it. gahh! so I got frustrated with it and gave up and never used it. What function did you use for it anyway??? just curious…..

Your doodling is cute!!! I like it!!!

  6. I love Wordpress it makes my life easier and it helps me get on to things that really matter like school work. Being a full time student and a part time domain mistress is easy now. I remember back in 02-03 when doing plain html and iframs that was a bitch fun but a bitch.

  7. Nice doodles =] there always fun to do!

  8. i remember when i cared about making sites perfect. valid html is a jerk. now im trying the wp blog thing too. and im using a premade theme! =O the sky is falling!!!

  9. I LOVE THE VEXEL!

And the scribble are great haha, the baby looks funny :P

  10. Thank you for your comment! I began homeschooling because this year became so overwhelming for me. I just couldn’t keep up and it became extremely frustrating. I’m going back next year though with a light course load to enjoy my senior year :)

  11. I guess I’m old fashioned but I still do everything on my site manually. The only automaticness I have is the haloscan commenting system.

  12. I hear you about the whole not sleeping thing. I have many problems with this simple act. I’ve learned to work on 2-3 hours a night but found getting a nice bed and working out helped me rest.

Blogging software sure has lowered the barrier to entry for setting up a site. I haven’t decided if this is a good thing yet.

  13. Sorry to hear you’ve been having trouble sleeping. I hate tossing and turning in bed. Maybe try drinking milk or something before bed. I’ve heard that helps. I haven’t tried it myself though.

Ah blogging! Wordpress makes everything easy huh? And those plugins! Whooo you gotta love those plugins! I still have a long way to go before things are easy for me though. My site still has a lot of errors.

  14. Things definately have changed dramatically as far as weblogging/websites go anymore, I noticed all kinds of changes all the time. Im getting like you, I just dont feel like updating no more.

  15. Very interesting doodles =P I can’t draw at all. So when I doodle, it’s mainly hearts and boxes and funky letters. Other than that, I stick with stick figures.

  16. It’s funny cos in the beginning I thought WP would be totally easy, but it’s more like ‘customizable’ and the end-user still has to edit quite a lot of stuff to get it tweaked. At least it helps with manual HTML coding :)
BTW, I read Falling Leaves a long time ago, but I remember it being a great book!

  17. Everything’s automated now. But, surprisingly, the user has to learn a lot more complicated coding to use the easier scripts with their own layouts and stuff.

Doodling on magazine pics is the shizz. I like to doodle on the flyers that come out around election time. Making fun of politicians is so much more fun. “Raise my taxes…I’ll draw a mustache on you so good…*scribblescribble*”

  18. Sorry about the second exam, but who really needs math anyway?

Have you tried medicine for your sleep thing?

    Those doodles are crazy!

  19. You draw really bad, jajaja but hey i hope u do better on your tests.

  20. Cool title! :) I really have noticed how everything is “automatic”. Little themes and coding tricks, look at myspace! All the sites with themes on it, heaven forbid you have to draw a background, upload it to photobucket, and use and IMG code!

  21. Lol, I love the doodles. They’re hilarious! XD
And you’re so right about everything being automatic, although I like to code a little here and there, from time to time…it’s nice to say “I’ve created that all by myself.”

    Good luck with your tests!

  22. Yea, I know what you mean about having to do anything (unless your coding everything yourself), but you know, the more time=the more content, and if you have good content then people would come for more than just the blog you know?

  23. Love the doodles! And I totally agree about the websites. I don’t have any of that stuff on my site. Everything on mine is html. No Wordpress or other blogging code. I just write it all in myself lol. It comes from being picky about how I want everything laid out and just from being too lazy to change the way I do things just to my my blogging 90 seconds faster then it was before. But then as you said, less time bloggin leaves more time for other things…and there is more to life.

  24. I don’t have any “automatic” stuff.. yet. I’m going to install Wordpress, but just as a commenting system, not to manage my whole site. But you’re right - owning a site seems too easy now, especially a blog..

  25. Haha I love the doodles, very good.

  26. I hate figuring out plugins. Always takes me forever. Wordpress is the easiest thing and the hardest thing at the same time.

  27. Ew, plugins. I wish I had a plugin-expert at my disposal of all the time. Then I’ll fire him and use him for his talents, or whatever.
Lol, I only think you’re sort of weird for those doodles. =)
    Kidding.

  28. Those doodles are the same sort of thing that I do, usually on size zero models :P
I know what you mean about the automation of weblogs - it’s an interesting thought that I’ve been doing this for nine years now, and when I started I didn’t even HAVE a CMS that I could’ve used. Then I used Greymatter. :P *Laughs at self* Ah well. Times change, I suppose.

  29. Hey, thanks for the comment on my site.

Nice site, looks clean and simple.

Its always hard to find something to post about.

  30. The doodles are cute!

  31. I have to say your doodles are cutteeeeee! Hahaha
I can get most plugins to work if there is a good readme file with it xD Goodluck!

  32. I love doodling as well too. It’s like a creative outlet for me when I’m bored, LOL. Kidding.

    Your doodles are really cute.

    (despair.nu)

  33. LOL, those doodles are so randomly cute.

  34. The doodling is different. I haven’t seen anything like that really.

About the automaticness, well.. I remember, also, when it took hours and hours to get my website just the way I wanted it.. and getting the blog “just so”. Now it’s so much easier.. I don’t use alot of plugins though, I’ve thought of trying some others out, but just haven’t really gotten around to it. Your website is great though.. automatic or not. :)

  35. ahah
doodling on pictures is fun (:

    very entertaining

  36. Your doodles are funny. The only doodle I’ve ever done is a racist caricature of an Asian guy (which is sad, because I’m of Asian descent myself), using crayons and a kids’ menu from Denny’s.

Guh, plugins frustrate me sometimes too. Hope you sort it out soon. :)

  37. LMAO at the doodles!
    I love doodling as well.
Especially back when there were boring lessons. xD

    Oh, I love plugins! Haha.
They sure take a load off. xD

  38. Oh, btw, awesome doodles!

  39. very cute doodles. it made me laugh.

  40. Oh I have the same sleeping problem!

This is very true about websites being easy, but i dont think it’s a bad thing..

    I like the mouse doodle.

  41. Keeping a blog and maintaining a website does take alot of time. I spend most of my time trying to make everything look good. I totally understand what you mean about that.

    Interesting doodles. Kinda funny.

  42. i love plugins, they make some things so much easier. those are some interesting doodles haha.

  43. Yeah, that’s why I don’t use many plugins at all. Have to have something to fill up my time!

  44. I get this dilemma. While I loved the way that Wordpress basically automated everything I wanted to automate, I missed having to stare at my bugged coding for hours and debugging/problem solving. Fun comes with some coding challenge for me :)
The doodles look creative and scary at the same time lol.

  45. i used to doodle on magazines last year! it was so much fun. i miss those days =)

  46. Even though it’s true a lot of ‘automatic’ stuff is going on. I don’t really think I’m not spending loads of hours on my websites anymore. Maybe because I set the rich text editor off in my Wordpress. I also make my own layouts and try to get more coding into it. Next to that I think content is very important, so I spend much time on that too :P So to say automatic website creating has taken over… I’m not so sure about that. But hahaha~ I hate automatic, because I feel it’s taking away some of your power over your own website. But hey wordpress is just a very nifty tool to help you publish your blogposts. Haha fuzzy comment :( *huffff* Hmmm~ your doodles look very very interesting! Take care~ xoxo

  47. Haha nice doodles! I do that when i get bored it cures my boredem for awhile.

  48. yehh maintaining a site is very time consuming, it gets on my nerves. Your doodling is funny

  49. I know what you mean about blogging being automatic. Once you’ve got the software installed its all fairly simple. I changed my layout last week in about 5 mins.
It’s nice though, at least it’s not hard to update these days.
